Carla Acevedo-Yates

Carla Acevedo-Yates is a curator, writer, researcher, and former Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator and Director of Curatorial Initiatives at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. There, she led the Hemispheric Initiative, centering Caribbean and Latin American perspectives and contributing to the museum’s transformation into a bilingual institution. Her exhibitions include Dancing the Revolution: From Dancehall to Reggaetón (2026) and Forecast Form: Art in the Caribbean Diaspora, 1990s–Today (2023–2024). As Associate Curator at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, she curated exhibitions by David Lamelas, Johanna Unzueta, Claudia Peña Salinas, and Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, as well as group exhibitions including Michigan Stories: Mike Kelly and Jim Shaw (2017–2018)  and The Edge of Things: Dissident Art Under Repressive Regimes (2019–2020). She received the Creative Capital | Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant (2015) and the inaugural CCS Bard Alumni Award (2024).
